Have you ever scrolled through LinkedIn and just felt utterly inadequate? You are not alone and let's be clear it's not jealousy but just a feeling of 'you aren't doing as much as you should be or your career isn't where it should be'.

What's driving this?

Being bombarded with the achievements and successes of others can be very overwhelming and the natural human instinct is to compare what you are seeing to what you are doing in your own career. So, how should you deal with this to make LinkedIn less of a space that engenders panic and anxiety and more of a space that fosters inspiration?

1. Know what your wins are

You should be clear in your mind what you want to accomplish so that you do not get distracted by what others are doing and begin making comparisons.

2. Learn from others

LinkedIn can be a very enriching space based on your mindset. Think of yourself as fortunate to have exposure to the successes of others which can form worthwhile learning opportunities for you.

3. Avoid being passive

Just being a scroller on LinkedIn would not have the maximum benefit that being active and engaged would have. So for introverts, this may feel a bit scary but reach out to persons whose achievements you admire and seek mentorship through asking questions that may guide your path.

4. Celebrate your successes

No matter how "small" your successes may seem they are still successes. Sharing successes is not meant to be boastful but to highlight milestones and progress in your career journey. It's important to document your growth and LinkedIn provides a space where that growth can be seen in your network and by potential employers to propel you even further along.

So, if you are to take away anything from this topic, it is to keep your eye on the prize and keep doing you. The old proverb the race is not for the swiftest but those who persevere to the end still holds true.
